Drawbacks of Social Media in Islam

Gheebah (Gossip and Backbiting)

There is a lot of gossip and Backbiting on social media which is called Gheebah in Islam. Gheebah is highly forbidden in Islam and it is considered a Major Sin. But on social media we see people engaging in spread of humors, rumors about others which are not true. This is called gheebah in Islam which is considered sinful.

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is most frequent and alarming drawback of social media. Cyberbullying is highly discouraged in Islam because in this practice people share defamatory posts and violate the harmony and piece of society.

Haram (Prohibited Content)

Social media Contains a lot of content which is considered haram in Islam. Like explicit material, Vulgar language and promotion of unethical behavior. Which is prohibited in the values of Islam and Considered Sin in Islam.

Temptation and Invitation to Sin

Social invites the people to actions which is considered sinful in Islam. Users can see the millions of nude half nude photos videos of girls and boys which is something that cannot be controlled or filtered. This explicit content creates a sense of urgency and temptation for activities which is prohibited in Islam.

Showoff and Materialism

There is too much trend on social media platforms for showing off and materialism. This is very toxic culture which is not appreciated in Islamic values and rules. People flex their wealth, vehicles, dresses and overall lifestyle. This toxic culture is creating a wave of dissatisfaction and envy among normal or poor people. But on the other hand, Islam preaches teachings of equity and brotherhood. That is Showoff and Materialism are the drawbacks of social media in Islam.

Violation of Privacy

Through Social Media people violates the privacy of people. It is not only a sin in Islam but a crime for society as well. We can see several cases where people complain that their data has been hacked from social media accounts. Facebook ID hacks and WhatsApp chat leaks are the common examples of privacy invasion in social media. Where as Islamic Values have zero tolerance over the privacy invasion of anyone. That is why social media is contrary with values of Islam.

Misguiding and Fraudsters on Social Media

Social media is overload with people who are fraudsters by profession. These people share misguiding and misleading content on social media. These people are criminals not only in Islamic rules but in universal laws of humanity. But on Social media platforms there is no filtration and control over such accounts. Such people regularly catch people through social people platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp and hack users’ data like bank account details and then cause them major loss. So social media which is serving as a source to these fraudsters is against Islamic Rules and this is a major drawback of social media in Islam.

Mind Setting Towards Secularism

Mind Setting towards Secularism is the most alarming drawback of social media for Islam and Muslim Community. This is something which is ruining the next generation of Muslims and also those who believe in GOD. Because before social media such secular culprits were not this much popular like they have become now. Social media has given them an easy approach to their target audience. Through social platforms secular organization are spreading their content and creating a secular mind set of younger generations of Muslims. Which is major drawback of social media in Islam.
